Shampoo isn’t the Villain

Since when did washing your hair become the enemy?

Imagine telling someone not to wash their face for days. Yikes.

No, you don’t need to deep-clean your hair every single day. And yes, using the wrong type of shampoo can dry out your hair or fade your color. Can some people can go a little longer without their hair looking dirty? Sure. But choosing not to wash your hair and scalp for 5+ days in a row isn’t doing you any favors. And overusing dry shampoo? Oof. That’s going to backfire.

Let’s talk about buildup.

Buildup can show up in a bunch of ways:

    •    Itchy irritation

    •    Flakiness or dandruff

    •    A heavy, oily scalp

    •    A weird film on your hair that just won’t wash out

If you don’t address buildup and properly wash your hair, it can lead to blocked follicles, irritation, inflammation and hair thinning. If your scalp and hair follicles aren’t healthy, your strands won’t be either.

The dry shampoo trap

If you’re relying on dry shampoo every day to fake a “clean” look, reapplying it morning after morning, your scalp is basically dealing with the equivalent of sleeping in your makeup and then applying more the next day without washing your face.

To be honest, I’m pretty anti–dry shampoo. Just wash your hair. But if you absolutely must use it, only apply it once and wash it out by the end of the day

Over Using dry shampoo can actually lead to heavy scalp irritation dry and brittle hair and breakage overtime. And no one wants that.

Daily washing isn’t bad.

In fact, it might be necessary for some people and that’s a hill I will happily die on.

For those who either want to wash their hair daily or for those with fine or thin hair who need to wash daily the key is using the right kind of shampoo.

For daily washers:

    •    Use a gentle, hydrating shampoo : Your hair isn’t super dirty, so you don’t need anything too strong, just something that cleans without stripping.

    •    Pair it with a lightweight conditioner that hydrates without weighing you down.

This combo works for all hair types and densities as a base “everyday wash.”

Co Washing

If you have medium to thick density or curly hair, and you want wash daily you can cycle between a gentle shampoo 1-3 times a week with a co wash / cream wash on the other days. These are low-lather, hydrating cleansers made for people who need to maintain moisture and manageability between deep washes.

They aren’t all created equal some are much better than others. Here is a few of my top choices.

Detoxing / Clarifying: Your Scalp Reset

Everyone—yes, everyone—should have a clarifying shampoo in the shower. This is your reset button.

Clarifying shampoos give your scalp a deep clean. They remove:

    •    Buildup from styling products

    •    Hard water minerals

    •    Sweat, oil, and environmental gunk

Think of it like your “treatment day.” You don’t need it all the time, but skipping it completely will catch up with you.

Always pair your clarifying shampoo days with a good deep conditioner for balancing your hair strands for those of you with fine hair who struggle with the thicker deep conditioners you can for a lighter weight just make sure it’s hydrating and follow up with a leave in conditioner.

Malibu C

Protect against hard water damage! This vegan chelating shampoo boasts top-notch cleansing capabilities without harsh chemicals or sulfates

STIMULATING AND REFRESHING SHAMPOO FOR HAIR AND SCALP

An invigorating daily shampoo, bursting with revitalising freshness. Created with a stimulating blend of Camphor Crystals, Bergamot and Black Pepper, STIMULATE-ME.WASH enlivens the senses, as it awakens and clarifies the hair and scalp.

Style Based Shampoos :

Just avoid them all together, shampoos labeled as “ volumizing” or “ smoothing” or any shampoo promising a perfect styled finish. Those types of shampoos don’t actually cleanse your hair properly, instead they are coating your hair with ingredients like silicones that give a temporary feel or finish, and with every wash they are adding more of those ingredients, instead of removing them which will lead to build up.

Bonus Tip: Skip the Dry Shampoo—Use a Scalp Tonic Instead

If you’re trying to extend your wash days, reach for a scalp tonic instead of dry shampoo. It helps balance your scalp’s pH and keeps things feeling fresh without clogging follicles.
